Studies have now established that if you’re a woman in the modern world, you’re expected to live to 80+.
First of – that’s incredible. 100 years ago, in 1920, the average lifespan was 50 years. On average, we have gained 30 years in 100 years ... Thank you, modern medicine.
Most of us are already well on that path to 80. Now, this is not a ticking bomb but perhaps thinking of life like that will help you understand the importance of your actions and your potential for impact.
80 years is also 29,200 days. Sounds like a lot of days, right? And perhaps because it ‘seems’ like a lot, it’s easy to turn them into ‘someday’.
But, do not be fooled, ask the ladies in their 70’s if it felt like a lot.
We’ve all had a someday before - someday I’ll have the difficult conversation with my partner … someday I’ll start the charity … someday I’ll travel … someday I’ll be fit … some f**king day I’ll xyz.
STOP THIS FOOLISHNESS. You’re hurting yourself, but more importantly, the women and men that you influence.
Jack Welch, the CEO of General Electric used to say –there are 7 days in a week, but SOMEDAY is NOT one of them.
And that, ladies, is what I encourage you to think about as you go off into the weekend … Today, Friday, May 8, is someday.
Any dream, project, conversation, or goal that we give to ‘someday’ takes away part of our soul. It crushes our spirit and puts off what we're born to do on this earth.
I am not talking about making audacious goals, changing the world, or creating your dream life, even though those things are welcome.
This is literally about taking the first step, the first step towards the thing YOU KNOW, you need to do.
This is why you’re receiving this email – because I want you to take the first step, today. Allow yourself to show up fully by recognizing the power of one day.
The first step may be the hardest, but also the most powerful because just like with everything, you have to start here. Make the decision to take today seriously.
I know you can take the first step today. Please don’t wait until day 29,198 to act - even if I do believe that it’s never too late to take the first step – there is so much more you can do with a few extra days or years.
I will leave you with this thought:
You woke up this morning and get to live another one of those precious 29,200 days so, realize the power in today and let today be different.
